Skip navigation link

Section 508 Compliance Question:

I’m somewhat new to the federal space and was wondering if anyone visibly displays their skip navigation links? The standard says, “A method shall be provided that permits users to skip repetitive navigation links.” If that link is not visible to users (but audible to screen readers) does that meet the spirit of the law? Is this question others have addressed, discussed, thought about?

  1. Skip navigation links appear when someone tabs on our page. I think if it were only perceptible to screen readers, then the mobility impaired would not benefit from it.
  2. Skip nav’s are hidden, since they are generally used for blind users, using a screen reader.
