Parapalegic child uses iPad to communicate

The next time you are whining about your annoying kids or feeling sorry about how tough life is … think about this video about how a paraplegic boy uses an iPad to communicate with his family.

Long story short, it’s about a really smart kid who, at about 2 months old, suffered this terrible disease which rendered him basically paralyzed.  Few thought he would survive past 2 years old but he did.  Through a series of pulleys, weights and slings, he is able to move his fingers a tiny bit.  His mother taught him to read and write, albeit every letter is a struggle.

So, the iPad comes along by way of his nurse’s boyfriend and they discovered that the iPad’s touch-sensitive screen was so sensitive that he was able to slide things around and actually type.  So, for the first time in his life, he is able to actually communicate.  There was a guitar app and he was able to strum the guitar, something that would be impossible in real life.

The iPad is unlocking his mind, which has been trapped in his paraplegic body.

It is a heart wrenching story with a glimmer of hope and inspiration. What is inspiring is that Apple’s iPad is bringing hope to disabled people around the world with its ultra sensitive touch screen pad, people are using the iPad in ways that even Steve Jobs probably never imagined.
